A letter from the candidate
Hello,
My name is D.J. Alvarez, Republican Candidate for Galveston County Precinct 8 Constable. I am retired Commander from the Galveston Police Department with over 23 years of law enforcement and leadership experience. I am also a 12 year resident of League City residing in the Brittany Lakes subdivision.
The Constable’s Office is a vital part of the county’s judicial system. It is also an entity that generates revenue for the county through the collection of fees by the courts for the service of civil process. As your Constable, I will provide professional, high quality, and effective police services with experienced deputies, for the residents and business owners within Precinct 8. I will insure that all civil process is served in a diligent manner to maintain and build trust. I will also be accessible to law enforcement and the public, and I will continue to be active and involved in our community.
I believe the Precinct 8 Constables Office should be accountable to the taxpayers. Your Constables Office should focus on making our community safer and strive to be more visible; driving marked units to help deter crime (which is not currently being done). As your Constable, I will make sure my deputies, myself included, maintained a visual presence as an effective deterrent to crime, while doing their assigned duties and also be available to any citizen requesting assistance.Visual presence is the number one deterrent to crime and makes the community safer.
In addition to the day to day duties of the Constables Office there will be added random patrols to school zones, neighborhoods, and businesses, to help provide a safer environment in Precinct 8. Truancy initiatives will be implemented, to keep our kids in school, and to help reduce daytime crime while you are at work. Working with local law enforcement agencies to help monitor registered sex offenders in Precinct 8 will become a high priority. All of this aimed at helping reducing crime, and making our community safer for you and your family (which is not currently being done).
The role of first responders will still lie with the local police agencies in Precinct 8, and the Constables Office will continue to work with them by providing an active support role. Arresting wanted criminals will remain a high priority. The Precinct 8 Constables Office will work with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to help improve public safety in our community. My record shows that I am all about accountability, and getting the job done.
There is always room for improvement, and innovation in policing, and with my extensive law enforcement background, training, hands-on skills, and leadership experience, I’m confident that I can make needed improvements to the Precinct 8 Constables Office while being community and business mindful. My focus will be on what counts… the people.
Thank you for visiting my website, and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. In closing, I am asking for your vote, and support in the 2012 Republican primary election on May 29th to elect me as your Constable of Precinct 8.
Sincerely,
D.J. Alvarez
